It’s that time of the year where I get a lot of emails and phone calls from my coaching clients asking if they should be purchasing gifts for their VA clients. I do agree that this should be done, but at the same time don’t go overboard in costs. Also, make sure that you do not purchase gifts that might offend your clients (i.e. Sending religious gifts if you’re not sure of their beliefs. BIG NO NO.).
Just as we like to hear that we’ve done a good job for our clients now and then, so too do they like to hear that you enjoy working with them and that you believe in their business and the value it brings to the world. Don’t over do it and say it every day, but every once in a while would be nice for them to hear.
Also, make sure you send out Christmas Cards, Birthday Cards and sometimes even gifts. Find your local Send Out Cards representative for a nice touch, and for gifts find out what they like (coffee, gardening, etc.) and buy appropriate gifts or gift cards. I have one client that loves to read, so I get her a Barnes and Noble gift card every year on her birthday. She said she’s never bored of it and thankful that I think of her.
Hand written cards are always a nice gift, or if they’re more eco-minded, use an e-greeting.
A little something is always better than a little nothing, I think.

We all like to feel appreciated. A small, simple gesture goes a long way.
I agree a small gift is always a nice thing at Christmas, but I also like to send small gifts to clients occasionally throughout the year. For example this year I sent three of my best clients a card and brownies for two of them who were sole proprietorships and two dozen cookies to a client which is a department of an insurance company. I think those were more appreciated because they arrived totally unexpected and not for any special occasion – just to say I appreciate your business. I became a Send Out Cards distributor for this very reason. It helps me in my marketing and allows me to send clients appreciation gifts and thank you cards.
